Katy Perry
Katy Perry is a singer and a song writer, she was married to comedian Russell Brand. She kick started her career as a gospel singer. Her target audience is 14-17, she has to be like an older sister or best friend, to reflect some of the anxieties young girls have, and to be a role model, to be someone that young girls can admire and want to be.

This Video is very empowering to young girls, she play the part of a strong women and the lyrics are very direct to the person who is listening.
in this video she was very comical, as if she wanted to be everyones friend, and as if she could laugh at herself.
In this video she was dating sex addict Russell Brand, this videos could be in response to her present situation however this can be her changing her image.

Andrew Goodwin Part 2
There are three ways music videos work to promote a song, these are amplify, illustrate and disjuncture.
Illustrate- music videos can use a set of images illustrate the meaning of the lyrics and genre this is the most common.
Amplify- this is similar to repeatability meanings and effects are manipulated and constantly shown through the video and drummed into our vision.
Disjuncture- this is where the meaning of the song is completely ignored.
Songs only tend to give us the a gist of the meaning of the song, then as the audience analysing it we make up our own mind
We only tend to get a gist of the meaning of the song and then tend to make up our own idea of what is being told, Goodwin explains that music videos should ignore common narrative. It is important in their role of advertising. Music videos should have coherent repeatability. Narrative and performance work hand in hand. It makes it easier for the audience to watch over and over without losing interest. The artist acting as both narrator & participant helps to increase the authenticity however the lip synch and other mimed actions remains the heart of music videos. The audience need to believe this is real.
This video is memorable because it's very strange, the dance moves are weird and the video and the colour images at the back were mesmerising a specially in the way the shots move.
I think this video is memorable for its unique key features like his hair styles and the colours that are used.
This video is memorable also for its uniqueness, her costume and setting is different from a lot of other videos.
This is how the Process works:
Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1975, it was directed by Bruce Gower, the reason this music video us regarded as important is that it was the first music video to have an impact on sales, after the video release the song went to number 1, and to be regarded as the work of art in its own right.

This is how the Process works:
- A commissioner from a record label sends a track to 5-10 directors.
- The directors then each submit a treatment.
- This stage is unpaid
- The director who has submitted the best treatment is then commissioned to make the video
- Only then is the director paid.

Creating a brand.
•Purposes
or Pop Videos
•Advertisement
•Illustrates
the song
•Appeals
to a visual audience
•Expresses
an individual’s emotions
•Tells
a story
•Markets
an image
•Creates a brand
Often
artists/groups are sold as a brand and the music video acts as a product of the
brand, in the hope that the audience will be inspired to “buy into the brand”
The spice girls are an example of this, they are sold individually but as a group at the same time, there is sporty spice, scary spice, posh spice, baby spice and ginger spice.
Marketing An Image
Lady Gaga and Adele are two completely contrasting artists here are two of their music videos i will be comparing.
Marketing An Image
Lady Gaga and Adele are two completely contrasting artists here are two of their music videos i will be comparing.
These videos are the complete opposite to each other, if you look at Lady Gaga's costume, it is very dramatic compared to Adele's black outfit, also in the video Lady Gaga is very out there with bright lights, extreme scenery and dancing where as Adele's video is completely grey and depressing complying with the song.
In this video you can see all their different personalities and this shows you just how relatable they are and how young girls would like them.

Artist Profile
Excellent Gentle men have 5 members,Jefferson Sechs, Steveland Swatkins, David Valentine, Dominic Phenomenal and PJ Snaxx their genre is R&B,Soul, and funk. Their location is Oregon America and they have been active since 2009.
Excellent Gentlemen plays danceable, vocal soul r&b music. Think '70s block parties and the foundations of golden-age hip-hop records. Their music stands for positivity, love, happiness and getting sexy; this is definitely NOT the drudgery of mediocre Indie-Rock. Their adopted home of Portland, OR has welcomed with open arms the injection of real live dance party music played by real live musicians. On the strength of their incredible live show, the independently-run band has ignited an adoring fan base and has become the hot touring funk act in the Pacific Northwest.
Excellent Gentlemen Lyrics
Verse 1
From the time that we met baby
I could tell you had things that a guy like me needs
You didn’t have to front to make an impression
Though my feelings followed you through a natural progression
Now you hold all my dreams inside this too/tool
So I wish I could lay beside/inside of you
It’s your personality that I miss when you’re gone
So strong I gotta sing a song
Baby x 4
Chorus
Girl this is just to show I care about you
And you can guess these things that I wanna do with you
Wish that it could be that you were here with me
Baby you gotta believe
Verse 2
I didn’t know baby
The effect of your love on me
Don’t you know I still see the light?
No matter how far apart we could be
Chorus.

Gaining permission
We had to gain permission to use the Excellent Gentlemen's song 'You've Got To Believe', heres an email we sent to them,
production meeting
In our production meeting we discussed how were going to get to our locations, what shots were going to film, and the risks we had to be aware of, this was so we had the day planed and to make sure were safe whilst doing our video.
Creating an image
These are the photos from us creating our mood board and gathering ideas for our music video, we decided to go to London, for example the London eye and Winter Wonderland to film, because were going to winter wonderland we decided to make it christmasy and wear winter jumpers.
Looking for an artist
When were looking for an artist there are certain songs we can't use for example rap artists and country, its hard to do a rap video because we have to edit it which will be hard when what the rapper is saying is really fast and it will be hard for our actor to match the words the rapper is rapping.
Heres an example of a rapper that is extremely fast and watching this you'll be able to see why we can't do a rap song.
We also have to be careful of the song we pick if the artist is signed the music can be taken off of our video because it is copyright and the music label own the song. For example we couldn't do a Beyonce song because she's it an extremely high artist in the music industry, if we were to do a Beyonce song without permission the label could potentially take us to court.
Therefore we have to search the internet to find a suitable artist for our music video. We searched sites like unsigned.com and found our artist that we are going to use which are called Excellent Gentlemen, the song is called 'You Gotta Believe'.

Potential Tracks
Right now were looking for an artist so we can use their music for our music video, we've looked on the internet on sites like youtube, unsigned.com and just browsing through google, we found a few that were possibilities but we couldn't find one we all decided on.
I found a Meghan Trainor song that i liked, i searched through all of her old songs and found one that would fit our video perfectly, the song didn't have many views, it didn't have a video and fans had made videos for it.
However our group didn't like this song so we compromised and found a song that we all liked on unsigned.com by a group called Excellent Gentlemen the songs called 'You Gotta Believe'

Styles of a music ideo
For different artists they have different videos to match their style of song and the way they look, for example Meghan Trainor is a new mainstream artist and wrote and sung the hit song 'All About That Bass' as she is quite a young fashionable artist she uses pastel colours in her video, pastel colours really fit the song and were in fashion when the song first came out, the dancers in the video are all wearing pastel colours along side her, and thats what really makes the song have such a big impact onthe audience.
Another example of this is Jessie J when she released her first single 'Do It Like A Dude' in 2011 she was trying to give off the image that the video was quite masculine, to do this she wore heavy black lipstick and had a very bold look.
In contrast to this she then released her second single 'Price Tag' shortly after in 2011, this is a different music video the song is a lot less heavy in terms of the message she is trying to give across than 'do it like a dude' therefore she lightened up the video also using pastel colours, pastel colours wasn't as fashionable at the time but this gives of the image she wanted people to see her as and that was being different to all the other artists.
