Purpose of a music promo video

The main purpose of a music promo video is to promote and publicise they video to increase the sales and as a result of this the aim becomes to make as much money as possible.

the music video exists as only one strand of a multimedia campagin, and is just one way in which a song is promoted. The music industry as a whole has a relationship with a number of different types of media, radio, tv, print media, film, new media and the internet.

There is often a clear sense of synergy across a number of platforms e.g film. This is when producers use a music to promote a film and therefore they make money from the film sales and music sales.
An example of this is four weddings and a funeral. The film first came out in the uk but it didn't take off, the producers then realeased it in Ameirca where the film got more publicity, the producers then decided to bring it back to the uk with a song by wet wet wet called love is all around this song and the film then hit big in the uk according to the worldwide box office it made $245.7million.

Also the new disney film frozen was released on the 19th of novemeber 2013, the hit song "let it go" was sung by the disney singer Demi Lavato, this song was used to promote the film and the singer producers combined them together using synergy. Parts of the film are shown in the music video and thats how the two are linked together.

The film itself had made $1.18 billion worldwide, the sound track sold 2.5 million copies in the usa alone, and ranked number 1 on billboard's album chart 12 times according to the New York times.

Foo Fighters animatic

To make our animatic we had to watch the first 40 seconds of the clip by starting and pausing it when the shot had changed, when the shot changed we drew the picture that was on the screen from the video at the time, we added the seconds to refer back to them when editing. We took pictures of the drawings and uploaded them onto the computer. using adobe premier pro cs6 we put the pictures into a sequence lining them up with the seconds we then added the music and the music video, and made it into a animatic.

By doing this i learnt how to make an animatic for a music video properly, i also learnt that when it comes to making my music video the shot are going to be very fast paced and we need to have a variety of different shot types.

Editing a music video is a lot different to editing a thriller, although a thriller has to have fast paced action, we had longer shots so it was easier for us to film and edit, however with a music video we have to film the same thing so many times in different shot types so that when we edit we can incorporate all different shot types and make it so it fits the type of music we use.

Types Of Brands

Artists can be divided into clear categories one being organic and one being synthetic.

The term organic is used to describe bands where the mucic comes first, they make the kind of music they want to make and then the record labels (if signed) try and sell this music to the correct segement and example of organic music is the beatles. The Beatles were an English rock band that formed in Liverpool, in 1960. With John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the greatest and most influential act of the rock era.

The beatles grew together as a band, they wasn't doing it for the lifestyle they would lead but their passion for the music they was making. The band met when John Lennon formed the group The Quarrymen in March 1957 with some school friends then later Paul McCartney joined as a guitarist in July. Paul invited George Harrison who later joined them and the name changed to The Beatles as a suggestion from Lennon's schoolmate Stuart Sutcliffe.

Organic music often appeals to a niche, but can appeal to a mass audience too Radio Head are a good example because the music comes first.

Synthetic music is another type it refers to the 'X Factor' methodology and it is the record labels that sit in the driving seat.
A gap in the market is identified, and then it is exploited by the development of music, and often the artist, to suit this gap, money is the ultimate goal in this operation. Acts such as 'One Direction 'are a good example of manufactured artists.

One Direction auditioned as solo artists on the X Factor and when going into bootcamp the judges suggested that they are put into a group to get them further in the competition. They then got to the finals and lost to Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle.

After the X factor One Direction was signed to Syco and then Columbia records. The boyband have won four Brit Awards and four MTV video music awards  one direction were known as the wealthiest artists under the age of 30 million.

One direction have just released their new album and singles. 'Steal My Girl' was real eased in 2014 along with their album 'Four' and already has over 56 million views.

Their new perfume was released in 2014 and this is how they create a brand.
